I've opened several Duo batteries and they appear to be HR-A AA size
nickel metal hydride cells. If you get replacement cells they must have
TABS. You cannot solder directly to the batteries, but you can overlay
the tabs and solder there.
To open them you repeatedly run a sharp cutting blade along the seam.
Work on each edge until all are cut cleanly. don't worry about cutting
anything inside, your blade will just contact the metal tabs (it might
help if the battery is discharged), scratching but not damaging them.
If your duo battery has a switch, make that edge the last to be sliced.
The two halves can then be separated. Rejoining them is easy if your
cuts are straight and true: The halves fit snugly together with no need
for glue of tape.
