The only thing I'd recommend is trying a CardBus enabled card. I got the 
MacAlly USB card to work in my unit although I have the same issues some 
people with the MCE upgrade have, as far as booting and sleeping with the 
card inserted. It also took me two boots after installing USB Card 
Support to get it to work. I have also successfully tested a Newer 
FireWire2Go card with a VST drive.
