Mike, Brandy and all others who were kind enough to take the time to respond here and
via e-mail.

Thanks for your time and the suggestions.

Perhaps I need to go back to school to learn how to better express myself (g)

It is NOT an issue of my college daughters PB not running well abroad or not
being able to hook up to the universitys Network, or any of those other things.

The literature from the University organizing the Study Abroad program
specifically recommended that students NOT bring their computers to
Australia, due to the fact that, historically, upwards of 65% of them end
up going missing. I would take issue about statements that Ozzie crime rates
are lower (g). I will bet that, per capita, crime in the US is lower, as we have
not had our guns confiscated and can still protect ourselves.

It is also not an issue of proprietary software or not being able to hook up to
the college network. I find that strange, as the dozens of US universities I am
familiar with, strongly encourage students to hook up -all over campus. Why
would it be different in Sydney? I was just at USC, yesterday, checking out my
younger daughters dorm arrangements and there were hook-ups all over the place
for the kids to plug in, away from the dorm.

Also the living arrangements for these kids studying abroad is not conducive to
being able to log-on from living quarters, as there is only one phone (pay) in the
corridor, and we are going to have a difficult time even making personal phone
calls.

The issue is that I would not bet on a horse race with odds like this and I am sure my

insurance would balk, paying a claim, where we knew, up front, that there was a 65%
chance the unit would be pilfered. Besides, my deductible is $200 less than I could
pick
up a new 2400c for. . .so it is almost a $1000 loss. . practically guaranteed.

The whole issue is moot, as we put her on Quantas yesterday (sans computer) and she
called 2 hours ago to say they were safe in the hotel in Sydney, before the scheduled
week on a sheep station, prior to semester starting in a couple of weeks.

So, we are back to the original query: How does one get/send e-mail, without their own

personal computer/NetScape software and AddressBook? Thats all I asked (g). It
was a foregone conclusion that she would be there without her beloved PB.

One guy e-mailed, saying to set up an account on http://www.onebox.com -and she is
looking into that. This could be the solution, but I am still open to suggestions. I
respect
that folks think not taking it because someone said not it might be stupid. But, they
were
pretty adamant in the recommendation to not take it, so she didnt. She needs it
second
semester, when she returns for her major -and I am NOT about to come out of pocket
for a new computer, when someone with more experience said not to take it.
