I will have to agree about today's youth, and adults. I am a multimedia designer and use and need as much power process speed as possible. But a little duo 280 came my way, and I just fell in love with the "lightness", speed (0s 7.1), sure you can't do all the stuff you do nowadays, but who really needs it. These old duo's are the way to go. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, June 28, 2000 10:35 AM To: Multiple recipients of DuoList Subject: [Duo] Duo's for students (Oz and elsewhere) The sad truth is I think, that Duo's (as they come) are becoming of limited use in the context of a University. Around this one (where I work part time) there is an *expectation* now that students will run seminars and do presentations with the aid of Powerpoint or whatever. And of course, Duos have no video-out port. I was recently trying to persuade a student to hang onto his Duo230 and extolling its merits, but the guy said it simply didn't do what he needed to do with a computer. Which is by way of saying, that minidocks are *incredibly rare* in the UK, that I ain't got one, and that I want one for myself! (and my brief experience with eBay makes me nervous of that route). Anyone in the UK got a minidock they could sell me?? Thank you. >Send her a Duo with an internal modem, software, and a little RAM, >or get her to BUY a second hand one there for $100 or so. She can sell >it when she leaves, for close to what she paid. >I'm afraid this generation of youth is getting spoiled beyond >belief, if they aren't being taught about OLD Macs. New computers, indeed! >BAH, HUMBUG! Nick Daisley Oxford, UK ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net! A listserv for users and fans of Mac subportables.
