Many Macs which use FPM also support EDO, even though they don't gain
any benefit from it (EDO is mostly backwards compatible with FPM so
such Macs just use it exactly like it was FPM).

A few models have memory controllers which explicitly support and
benefit from EDO. I believe the 2400 is one of the few that does.

The only model I'm aware of which has a problem with EDO is the 7200
(supposedly you can damage them by installing EDO).

Have you tried doing a full Power Manager (PMU) reset using the
switch on the back of the computer? It's located behind the I/O door
near the SCSI port.

To do this, first turn the computer off, remove the battery, and plug
in the AC power adapter. Now press and hold the switch for at least
20 seconds. You may have to play around with the switch a lot to get
the PMU to actually reset; the 2400 is known to be very frustrating
in this regard.
