i also wanted to move my 6.0 gig travelstar into my 2300c and got around the
bracket problem by finally deciding to glue the old brackets in place along
the sides of the travelstar, using good old-fashioned fast-setting, two-part
epoxy. Not the most elegant solution and maybe even a dangerous one (you can
imagine what a glue drop out of place, or what a 1 mm misalignment will
do)--but it works beautifully. you do have to be very careful with the
stuff, and to make sure that the bottom of the brackets lie flush with the
bottom of the travelstar itself (i just let the whole thing rest and dry on
a flat table top, pressing gently). then screw the drive onto the duo's
magnesium frame as usual. of course this also probably means that your drive
will be unusable for anything else but a duo, and i'm not sure yet what the
long-term effects will be (will the epoxy crack from the heat generated by
the drive)? so far so good, though--it's great to have that huge drive on
the old machine!

cheers
jose (back in the philippines, where the new brackets are impossible to
find)

Unfortunately the original brackets are too short, so you can't drill
extra holes (The originals are approx' 73mm wide whilst the ones you
need to buy/make should be around 84mm wide to accomodate the holes
on a travelstar which are about 78mm apart I think).>
