This sounds like a classic extension and/or control panel conflict. Disable
all extensions on startup (hold Shift key) and, if it does boot up, start
adding extensions one-by-one via Extensions Manager. Yes, it's a pain, but
that's what you have to do. You can usually be confident in enabling all the
Apple-installed items... Usually. Otherwise, it's possible the installation
was incomplete.
