I've thought about this one, on and off, for a few years now. I agree that as security, it's worthless. However, it does allow a useful layer of "only available to people who have some shred of interest." Not security, but privacy. Polarized windows... sure, anyone who cares to can peek in, but a casual glance doesn't show anything. You have to actually want to look. It'd be *great* to be able to have public posts googleable, and open-to-DW-users posts not googleable. Right now, since I don't want everything I don't limit to my specific f'list to be searchable, I have search engines turned off. I'd love it. I know there are other people who'd love it. (The slash communities would love it.) I also know there'd be endless bitching about the "security" some people thought it would provide, as every wave of new users discovers individually that it does not, in fact, keep their ex-boyfriends from reading their posts. And that griping about your boss "only to DW users" doesn't keep him from finding out. It'd be one more layer of complexity to the granularity problems, with several pros and cons. I'd like the possibility to be discussed, but I'll also very much understand if it's not worth the hassles. - Show quoted text - > On Tue, Feb 3, 2009 at 8:45 PM, chasy <[email protected]> wrote: > > Would the following tier of security be possible in DW or would it > > require a plethora of code changes? > > > > "This entry viewable to: > > [] public > > [] DW community > > [] friends > > [] custom friends groups" > > > > It's the "DW community" classification that I'm adding - so that > > anyone part of the community can see the entry but not just any joe > > schmoe surfing the web can see it. > > > > I have a reason for wanting this feature but I'm not going to try to > > explain it unless someone wants me to.
