I'm PC now and it was Erica who suggested the polarized windows analogy. :)

Also, I just read three emails msgs in reply to this one that came in a
separate message because [DW DISCUSS] is in the subject line. Just wanted to
make sure ya'll knew I wasn't ignoring what any of you said when I wrote my
last reply.

It's not about security for me - I don't need to go in depth about that
again because I did in my last email but I just want to be clear that I'm
not suggesting it for sake of security. I like the structure of LJ because
my IRL friends/family can read public entries and I can keep more personal
stuff private. What I'm trying to "regain" is sharing personal stuff with
strangers without IRL people having access to it. There are only 1 and a
half options for this:

1.) Have two totally separate journals - one that IRL people know about and
one that they don't. If this were the case, everyone on my friends list
would need to have both of my usernames on their list if they want to read
EVERYTHING I write. (And I'm still considering doing this...)
1/2.) Have one journal and loosely count on the fact that the people *I*
know won't be creating DW accounts and therefore my stuff is safe.

Obviously, #1 is a LOT safer, if privacy and security is what I'm going for.
But I'm a clutter freak and I'd rather have just one journal that functions
as opposed to two AND the stuff that I'd share community only...well, it
wouldn't be The End Of The World if someone I knew IRL came across it. It's
just easier to write about some stuff if you *think* they can't read it. I
had this problem a lot in the past - I'd start a blog, have a blast with it,
start sharing it with people, and then all of the sudden my writing style is
cramped because I'm wondering if so-and-so is reading my blog now. :p

So in a weird way, I suppose the feature I'm requesting is "the illusion of
invisibility". Or maybe "obscure visibility". ;)

I'm interested in anyone else's input on the pros of having "logged in users
only" visibility.

- Chasy.
