Hi! Mark came to me recently asking if I was the person who had offered to set up a second Dreamhack server. I was, and it transpired that Afuna's existing Dreamhack server is full, but there are still people out there who need Dreamhacks. So Mark asked me if I could set up a second server.
I discussed it with Mark, and the conclusion we came to was that it would be better to have a slice (VDS) dedicated to this purpose on SliceHost. After setting it up, then, I'm proud to announce that we have a dedicated VDS on SliceHost for Dreamhacks: http://hack.dreamwidth.org/ The server itself has 1GB of RAM, 40GB of hard disk space, and is running a 64-bit installation of Ubuntu Hardy Heron (8.04.1 LTS), so you should find it has ample resources. Accounts on the server get 500MB of quota by default (not including database storage), which should be more than enough for even two separate installations of the code. However, if for some reason you find yourself needing more quota, just let me know. You can apply for a Dreamhack by using the Apply page on the site - http://hack.dreamwidth.org/apply.shtml . Filling that in will shoot off an email to me, and I can then set up your Dreamhack when I see the email. This setup is automated once I start it off, so it only takes one command on my part and then 2-3 minutes later you'll receive an email with details on how to log in, etc. This service isn't *replacing* Fu's - as far as I know Fu is still running her server, so nobody needs to move unless they want to. However, the new server should be faster, so if that matters to you then you may want to do so. If you want to move, simply contact either me or Afuna, and we'll get things started. Take care, and I hope this gets people hacking on the code some more :D - Sophie. _______________________________________________ dw-discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.dwscoalition.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/dw-discuss
