There have been many times I've disabled comments on a post (and
lost them all, either temporarily or permanently) when what I
really wanted to do was just temporarily or permanently stop
further commenting.

This would be really useful to people whose journals get picked
up by metafandom or fandom_wank without their knowledge and find
three days after they've posted something, discussed it with a
small group of people and are on to something else that there is
now a storm brewing, but they are at work and they just can't
deal with it right now or don't want to deal with it.

They don't necessarily want to lose the conversations that were
already there with their friendslist, and they don't particularly
want to lock the post because someone from outside the list may
have been commenting, but now things are snowballing and their
current choices are lock the post or turn off comments.

There needs to be a way to say "enough already" quickly and
easily.
