QSL INFO -

Due to my own stupidity, I have lost the DXbase log I keep from October 11,
2008 through December 1, 2008. While I don't necessarily want to have QSLs, I
would like to try to rebuild the log information.

If it is possible, would those stations who worked me through that period
please send me the log information including your call, the date and time of
the QSO and the band on which we worked. I know it will be impossible to
rebuild the log but any and all pertinent information would be appreciated.

I would also appreciate it if the DX bulletin editors could pick up this
request and publish it in an upcoming issue.

Many thanks to all who might reply to ve...@rac.ca

BITS & PIECES -

THE REPUBLIC OF KOSOVO ENTERS A NEW PHASE AS OF DECEMBER 9, 2008

"EULEX will switch on and UNMIK will switch off", as EULEX's head put it today!

http://www.eulex-kosovo.eu

It was just a few days ago in the United Nations Security Council where the UN
Secretary-General's fresh report on Kosovo highlighted the considerable
progress made in Kosovo since its independence in February of this year. All
Council members supported the decision by the Secretary-General to adapt the
UN's role to this new, positive reality by accelerating the downsizing of the
UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) and the transfer of rule of law authorities to the
European Union's mission, EULEX as of December 9, 2008.

There is no doubt in anyone's mind that the Republic of Kosovo, as it is called
in UN terms, is there to stay as it is recognized by fifty-three UN member
states today. Even those European countries not recognizing Kosovo because of
their own minorities, voted unanimously to let the EULEX take over the next
phase of the new country's development work. This is also another historical
event where, for the first time, the European Union is working together and
with the United States on a peace settlement issue.

This same day also signifies a wonderful occasion to the 2008 Nobel Peace Prize
Laureate, Martti Ahtisaari, who acted as the UN Special Envoy for Kosovo and
whose "peace roadmap" is now in implementation. Mr. Ahtisaari has served as
mediator in many complex negotiations in which there is no standard outcome.
Kosovo's road to independence marks a unique case in which the only winners are
the people of Kosovo. We all salute Mr. Ahtisaari for his mission under
complicated circumstances and congratulate him on winning the Nobel Peace Prize
which he will receive on this same day. Amateur Radio operators are grateful to
Mr. Ahtisaari for his support of Amateur Radio Mission Goodwill Kosovo
currently under implementation in Kosovo.

A special postage stamp is issued in Finland on December 10 in Mr. Ahtisaari's
honor, and the next 1000 direct QSL envelopes released by
OH2BH/OH2BN/OH2TA/OH2UA for YU8/OH2R, CN2B, CU2X, FJ/OH2AM, OH0X, OH8X, OJ0B,
TC4X will bear that stamp.

They're at it again!!!!
Just a last minute reminder that the 3 Steve's (Steve-KF2TI, Steve-N2IFA,
Steve-KB2ENF and Kurt-W2MW, aka Steve), along with those two laughing young
men, Andrew-N2IFB and Eric-K2EMZ will be guest op'ing at the ARRL station,
W1AW, Tuesday December 30, from 1700 - 2045 UTC.
This is their 16th annual WAS DX-pedition to Newington and they will be
operating the following bands:
30M CW (Kurt aka Steve) 15, 20 and 40M SSB (Steve, Steve and Steve)
Andrew-N2IFB and Eric-K2EMZ will also be operating as "Steves" on 10 and 17M
and possibly 80M.
Hopefully condx will improve and they will try to listen for outside the US.
Packet spots will be posted.
If you work any 3 operators, they will send you a beautiful, full color WAS
(Worked All Steve's) certificate (suitable for framing). No QSL is needed, as
they will have copies of the log and send out a certificate to all those who
qualify. QSL cards to them are not necessary for the WAS. If you want a W1AW
QSL Card, please send to them direct or via the bureau.
The logs will be posted (hopefully) after January 1st on their website:
http://the3stevesarc.org/
This is not an officially sanctioned ARRL event. It is run for fun by the 3
Steves Amateur Radio Association (TSARC) - WK3SS (all rights reserved) and they
are responsible for the printing and sending of the Worked All Steve's
certificate (suitable for framing).
They would like to thank the ARRL for allowing them to play with their great
toys and putting up with them each year. The team hopes to work you then.

>From the CQ Newsroom...

Canadian time/frequency standard station CHU -- a fixture for decades on 7335
kHz -- will change frequency to 7850 kHz at 0000 UTC on January 1, 2009. The
move comes as a result of the International Telecommunication Union's decision
in 2007 to expand the 40-meter ham band in Europe and Africa (Region I) to
7000-7200 kHz. It was previously 7000-7100 kHz, with -- as every 40-meter DXer
knows -- international broadcasting allocated from 7100-7300 kHz.

As part of the 40-meter expansion, the international broadcast band was shifted
to 7200-7350 kHz. As broadcasters began relocating, CHU on 7335 began
experiencing significant interference. Thus, officials at Canada's National
Research Council, which operates CHU, decided to move the time/frequency
standard station's transmissions to 7850 kHz as of the beginning of 2009. The
complete NRC announcement (English version) is online at
http://inms-ienm.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca/common_files/stories/chu/communique_e.pdf
