After some further investigation, it appears that I shouldn't have filed this
against Indicator applet, as I (now) think this functionality is provided by
pidgin-libnotify.
I will look into it some more and proceed from there.

Status in Indicator Applet: Invalid
Bug description:
When I receive a new message in Pidgin (in an existing conversation), and the
Pidgin conversation doesn't have focus, clicking on the Show button on the
indicator does nothing. However, selecting the message from indication-applet
raises the conversation, and gives it focus (even if there are other
conversations in separate tabs of the window).
If I have no conversation open, and receive a new message, then that message
gains focus.
I am running netbook-remix, and maximus, so when the conversation doesn't have
focus it isn't visible at all.
