Tony,

GO to http://www.ad1c.us and check the DX4win section. Jim has an excellent
tutorial on how to do it the best way.
You should creat a new, empty log file and import your old log file to it
and merge your country file from the old to the new version. After you are
done with any of the other work you propose, create a merged .ini file.

I like to print a summary of DXCC from the old and new systems and compare
them for any changes. I have been able to determine what was changed and why
and, in every case, there was an error in my original entries.

Works perfectly and gives you the advantage of all of the corrected
exception details in the current version of the country file.

Subject: [Dx4win] DX4WIN V7.01

Hi all,

I have just received the new key for V7.01 and am upgrading from V6.4. Has
any one come across any problems that they care to share?? I propose
following Steve's advice and installing V 7.01 in its own sub-directory then
transferring over:

1. Add new Key
2. Log File
3. Country file, what is country version file in 7.01?
4. dx4win.tcp file. Should I merge or copy over from V6.04? (I only
made one addition which I could easily just add to new v7.01 TCP file?)
5. Portmap, can I just transfer portmap info from 6.04 to 7.01? (i.e.
to ensure software/XP accept LPT2?)
6. Merge INI file.

I have changed the label file to customise a label, whilst this isn't
difficult to change again, what is the label file and if I transfer it from
V6.04 to V7.01 will I looses any new information in V7.01 file?

What I am concerned about is that copying over (and thus replacing) too many
files from v6.04 to v7.01, will naturally replace 7.01 data with 6.04 data.
A) are these files compatible and B) will I "loose" any additional data
given with the latest version??

Finally in V6.04 when I want to look up current QSO contact details, I hit
F3 this gives me data from CD Rom and then I if hit return, it takes me
automatically to QRZ.com. Frankly now with permanent high speed broad band
connection I have not upgraded my CD Rom and actually don't want to see any
of that information. Can I cut out the "middleman" and go straight to
QRZ.com from the active QSO log page??

I am sure some of these points have been covered before so please forgive me
for being lazy, maybe some of you out there have done all this and can save
me any problems.

Thanks & regards 73 de Tony G8DQZ
