I have not been following this thread but I read this one.  I just switched to 
K3WW earlier this week for the same reason.  I kept getting disconected from 
VE7CC.  I have not yet been disconnected from K3WW.

I have both a direct as well as a wireless connection to the VE7CC
software, and I never lose my connection from DX4WIN, and haven't for
years, in any version.
