John -- If your DX4WIN correctly sets the mode for other radios but not the FTDX101, I suspect the rig file you have is the problem. There are no menu settings in the FTDX101 that would cause this symptom.
Replace your rig file in the RADIOS folder with the Yaesu FTdx101 file from the AD1C site -- http://dx4win.ad1c.us/radios/index.html.
