Sometimes the tab key takes you from field to field. But my experience is like yours, it's a tough slog with the "modern" UI.
I would want something where I enter fields in the order they're in my logbook and just tab between fields and hit enter once to record the QSO. And maybe have the date propagate from the previous QSO with just a tab. If you have computer programming skills, maybe you can create an input form convenient for your paper log, emit an ADIF file and then import the ADIF file into DxBase. I've found that I can expedite the entry process by using Writelog to enter the info. Select the appropriate contest format, set the computer clock to the proper date (don't worry about the specifice times, these are edited later), and enter the call signs. Most contests will fill in default values for RST, State, Country, etc. The most difficult contest I've entered so far is Sweepstakes as there are lots of required info such as Nr, Check, and Section that really aren't needed in the DSXbase log. Once the paper log is in Writelog, reset the computer clock to the current date and time and edit the log times. Click on the first QSO in an hour segment and then find the last QSO for that hour period. Use Ctrl Click to highlight all QSO's within the hour long segment. Then click on Edit/Interpolate QSO Times and Writelog will evenly spread out the QSO's times beteween the first and last QSO's that were highlighted. This will get the hour part of the time correct for all entries. Most of minute entries may need further editing, but this can be quickly done by double clicking on the time and adujsting the minutes. Do the same for the next hour long segment of the log. Once all times are corrected in the log, export an ADIF file and then use the non-Dxbase import to bring the entries into your .mdb log.
