Since several replied to this I better put my comment back on the reflector.
I've been backing up my database to a CD using my writer. Be assured that on
WIN98 SE you can very easily update a new installation to your current log from
a CD. Yes - the files will be read only but in WIN98 you can REMOVE the READ
ONLY attributes. Actually I normally just go to the DOS prompt and do it very
quickly. My question is why can't I change the READ ONLY ATTRIBUTE when I
right click on properties on the DXB2005 folder? The attribute shows that it
removes but it lies. Hope I'm not confusing everybody and if any body knows
how to change the read only attribute the inf would be much appreciated.
       Thanks, Sandy W4DUP

Ok, now I understand what you meant.
I back up to CDRW so I don't have that problem.
I know XP will allow you to set the attribute correctly as I do it frequently.
So I suspect you may have some sort of writing software glitch.
