Hi, With regard to your posting to the DX Base reflector, might I please ask a small favour of you?
You obviously receive messages in "digest" form, same as I do.There's really no need to leave the entire digest you received in when you reply. It makes retrieving mail very difficult for others who use dial-up and have a lot of mail, and it also makes your message extremely difficult to read and understand. Every mail program allows the sender to highlight the un-necessary parts of a message that's being replied to and delete them, although I admit sometimes it's a little intimidating if you're not used to doing it. In answer to your question, when I run my backups (nightly, in my case), I just backup the entire DX Base folder along with all the critical system files and other important stuff of each of my computers. Depending on what hardware you have in your shack, you can do this any one of a number of ways -- via CD-Rom, ZIP disk, or , as in my case, a tape drive. If you have a second computer in the house, it can even be made to backup one computer to a drive on another (my "last line of defense" is to do this). Taking of my "ham radio" hat and putting on my professional "sysadmin" hat for a minute, you really do need to put a serious backup plan in place for your data, especially if you have lots of data, or if the computer you use for DX Base also houses important non-radio stuff as well. I do this stuff for a living, and the number of times I've seen grown adults on the verge of tears when they've suffered a hard drive crash and lost everything is pretty staggering. Good luck with DX Base, and good DX! If I can help out in any way, please don't hesitate to ask. 73 de W2IRT Peter Dougherty [EMAIL PROTECTED] Please visit http://www.nyctrackbook.com for details of my book, "Tracks of the New York City Subway"
