Dave, I was off the air for 40 years and have not bothered to enter my
logs from W3CMN 1955-62 into DXbase. However, I did enter a few of
those old QSO's in order to get DXCC credit for some deleted entities.
Yes, I did uncheck "Valid" for the CW Q's. I know the JA on 40CW is a
NIL because it was a contest QSO and the Log Checking Report from ARRL
showed that the JA did not have me in his log. Very simple.

Unchecking "Valid" removes that Q from the band-mode summary, but I
guess Courtney has a point: if I am not in his log, it's not a QSO, so
what's the use of keeping the record in my log at all?

George et al-

Perhaps your JA 40 CW is good, but doesn't show up in the summary
as a W or a C. I look to the summary to see if something is needed and
have often not seen the W or C and have in fact the country confirmed.

I have been primarily a COW operator for nearly 50 years but was
inactive
from the mid 70s until the mid 90s. CW contacts made prior to 1/1/1975
don't show up in the summary window. They do count for mixed, but
before
that date there was no CW DXCC award and counted for mixed. I have
no idea why it was decided that the wouldn't be a row in the summary
that
showed Mixed. Now we have CW, Phone, RTTY and Digital, but still no
Mixed. My passion is working and confirming band countries. Heaven
knows
how many green stamps or IRCs if sent not realizing that I already had a
country confirmed on CW prior to 1/1/1975 but didn't realize it at the
time
because it didn't show in the summary.

I have been a DXB user for about 10 years generally upgrade each year.
I
haven't mentioned this before thinking I am probably the only old
fuddy-duddy
left who has CW contacts that are over nearly 30 years old and are still
the
ones they are using for awards. :-)
