First Question: How many comports does your computer physically have?
Second Question: Did you check 'System' to indeed see if the comports were 
active? What 
are it's parameters?
Third Question: Do you have any other devices connected to the computer that is 
using a 
comport?
Forth Question: What type of computer, what type of OS?
