Neal,

because of the problems and like of filtering that DXBase has, I have been
doing the AR-User/CC-User thing for several years
with DXBase CC-User when connected to a CC Cluster (I use VE7CC-1) gives you
more filtering than you can shake a stick at and
when VE7CC goes down he has it set up to automatically switch over to a
cluster in 5 land (I forget the call) but it just works
almost flawless. I leave it connected for day at a time and very very rarely
(maybe once a year) loose a connection to the cluster.
The AR-User/CC-User program is free so you can't beat the price and the
support is unprecedented.

Neal, I would probably keep the VHF in there as an option although I agree
it's a dying technology as people get more 'net connected.

What I might suggest is see if Lee, VE7CC is interested in allowing his AR
User software to be distributed as part of the installer with DX Base. If
he's agreeable to this, then perhaps have a pre-set configuration so that AR
User loads on startup and connects to the desired cluster(s), then DX Base
connects to it. The benefit of doing it this way is AR User does the
heavy-lifting, allows more than one connection, does all the re-connecting
and allows an unlimited number of loggers to connect to it simultaneously --
this is great for contesters who like to leave DX Base open during the
contest in case something needed shows up.

I just wanted to get an indication from you about your usage of VHF for
packet clusters. I know that almost every sysop I know (myself included)
have shut down their VHF ports a long time ago but there are some still
offering the service.

The reason I was asking was that I was considering moving towards allowing 2
internet DXCluster connections instead of 1 VHF and 1 Internet. How does
this affect your operation?
