I guess you can tell MMTTY is not high on my list of things to do! The reason is that digital mode programs focus on doing a great job with digital qsos and have more time to make it great than I do. You will notice however that their log capabilities are not that great (and that is the focus I have for DXBase).
The philosophy of how do to these things is a bit different depending on who you buy. DXLabs breaks everything down into a separate program and depends on interprogram communications to work together. Others make one program do as much as it can. My personal philosophy is that DXBase is a logging/qsl management/awards tracking/station automation program. My objectives, towards making DXBase the loggingf program is: 1. Free up your time to make qsos by simplifying as many tasks as possible so you do not spend time trying to make your program run at its optimum, 2. Eliminate errors and losing contacts by interfacing with intelligent items in the shack that ensure that you can grab that contact as quickly as possible and record the information for you 3. Increase your interest in the hobby by offering more awards tracking and submission automation 4. Enhance your operating experience by staying current with the latest technology so that DXBase looks attractive and integrates into the operating environment you choose 5. Focus on customer satisfaction and listen to your desires by dialog and communications 6. If its not part of objectives 1-5, stay away from it, at least for DXBase. I will be offering other products though! I am not going to be crazy about this, you guys are my customers and I do believe that the customer is always right, but I have to look at all of you as my customer and figure out what the collective you wants. If I decide I am not the right person to make you happy, I will hand DXBase off to the next person (whose philosophy might be different). But its only fair you know where I see DXBase fitting and the direction I will be taking it. If I think it would be better to have a task done by a separate program and integrating it with DXBase similar to what DXLabs does, thats what I am going to do. I can already tell you thats the direction I am going with the new DXCluster interface. If I think functions should be part of the program and not a separate program (I am leaning towards believing all of the various log import functions should be part of DXBase and not separate programs, for instance), I will add them to DXBase. BTW, before I create any hard feelings, I didn't mean to make any comment on DX4WIN, Paul is a friend, Steve Bookout is a very close friend of mine (even though he isn't associated with DX4WIN it was his baby with Paul for quite a while) and I have a lot of respect for what they have done with that program. I can honestly say its a very good program and there is room for all of us in the logging business. I was just using its MMTTY functionality as an example.
