Try to change the above to
cd /home/michael/E/e/src/
./enlightenment
I had this problem too. I think E is looking for the images in pix/ but
since you are in your home directory and runs E it will look in
/home/michael/pix and don't find any pics. I solved this by first cd:ing to
the E directory and then run E.
