I disagree. E-gold is from 1995 or 1996. It is operating for 6 or 7 years.
The gold economy is for hundred of years.

And I do not think scalability is such a problem - the technology and the
infrastructure are known - not such a BIG thing.

I think it is a mistake to consider scalability as a barrier.
