There is definitely a performance issue with the list tab in the model editor opening with a previously saved filter. I would like to add a preference to allow the user to save the filter and or columns, and make this setting disabled by default. I think the save/restore is confusing anyway.
I will also look into an alternate patch for the view menu issue, and would welcome any more input on further tracking this down.
