We're saying opposite things; IMO e4 or any kind of sandbox repo is now an
anti-pattern. Compared to a fork/branch, a sandbox makes things harder to
be moved back into Platform. The GitHub fork-based workflow is now much
better at encouraging innovation and to have this innovation back into the
original repo.
I believe it's an interesting thing to question whether e4 could try other
processes to foster innovation than being a sandbox (as a complement, not
as an alternative - yet ;)

AFAIK we could also have Github repos handled by the e4 project.
