It was there at one time .. However due to the release cycle more frequent for ebuild than for whole stuff (at least in a "normal" phase), I places it in my own arch branch.. This has the clear advantage that it's eaisier to maintain, as CVS lack a simple way to keep track of file renaming and as ebuild name changes with each version ... As arch manages easily the name changes that's better .. As a conclusion I would say that the plan was also to include it directly in portage, in order a new user do not have to install it "manually", and in order to have it even on LiveCDs.
