If something is wrong the "mire" doesn't work either. If I understood it
correctly "mire" is a special PPP-username/password. So "mire" does only
work if you get a proper LCP handshake including authentification. But
in that case you know already that the line is working as your PPP peer
is on the other side... - A failing authentification is enough to know
the line is not broken. You don't need a special account to get to know
that.
