Stewart:
Heya. So I presume you see the error when you initiate
a connection from PC2 to PC1? And...you see the "closed
unexpectedly" *after* you provide the VNC password?
Right now...EchoVNC has a known problem with RealVNC
4.x. EchoVNC periodically checks to see if RealVNC is running,
but RealVNC mistakingly sees these checks as failed authentication
attempts, so it "blacklists" EchoVNC -- meaning it requires a few
extra seconds between connections than it usually would. The
overall effect is that EchoVNC cannot connect to a RealVNC
server for a few seconds (~10) out of every minute. Which is
annoying.
We're going to fix this in the next release of EchoVNC, so
that it won't "trip" this security feature of RealVNC. Also, for
RealVNC, you don't have to make the "AllowLoopback" setting;
the loopback is "allowed" by default.
cheers,
Scott

Hi Scott
I have a very similar problem to Peter Judd on 2005-04-18
Both clients are succesfully logged into the echoserver
When either side attempts to start the VNC Connection, it proceeds
perfectly, finds the partner
and then bombs out with the message
The connection closed unexpectedly
Do you wish to reconnect to ......
The message about too many security failures ..... also crops up
A message about local loop back connections has also come up once.
However the properties of my VNC
server do not offer a Local Loop back option and I don't like
tampering with the registry.

I've run out of ideas here.
