Heyaz,

Robert,

At least in earlier versions this will happen when you don't have loopback
connections enabled on the UVNC server. I think there might be other
conditions that could cause it though as well.

Scott,

Correct me if I'm wrong..

Thanks,
David

Subject: [Echovnc-users] Connection problem

I have successfully set-up connections between two remote PC and my Home PC,
so far. A third machine is being very stubborn. I am using the same
versions of EchoVNC and UltraVNC on all machines. My Home PC is running XP
Pro, as is the machine I cannot connect to. The remote machine in question
connects to the Demo EchoServer without problem. When I initiate a VNC
connection from EchoVNC, I get a message saying that the partner ID has been
found and then the UltraVNC pop-up window shows "connecting ..". At this
point a error pop-up is displayed that either says "Could not connect to
Server!" or "Connection closed unexpectedly". Is this a problem with
EchoVNC or UltraVNC? I cannot tell if the error pop-up is being generated
by EchoVNC or UltraVNC. Once the remote PC connects to the EchoServer is
there any Firewall/Router settings that could prevent a connection? Thank
you.

Robert

Screensaver problem

Heya Scott:

Just got back from vacation and saw this post. I know that 1.33 solved a lot
of connection problems, but this is one that I hadn't picked up on that
appears to be lingering. I'm wondering whether I should hold off on rolling
out 1.33 until you work through this issue?

Thanks!
David Schlesinger

Hi there,

First of all, thanks for providing this software.

My main aim is to connect to my work PC from my home PC.

This is my setup on 2 WinXP computers:

1- I am running echoServer 1.40 and echoVNC 1.33 on my Home PC which is =
accessible on all ports.
2- Work PC is behind a firewall which allows ports 443 and 80 only.
3- The work PC connects to the echoserver at home successfully through =
port 443.
4- I can sucessfully connect to work PC from my home PC when the work PC =
is NOT running a screensaver.
5- As soon as the work PC activates the screensaver, the echovnc =
installed on this PC disconnects from the echoserver and thereby making =
it impossible to make a connection ever again.
6- The problem can only be solved by deactivating the screensaver on =
work PC, logging in, AND deleting and creating a new echoServer =
connection in the EchoServer tab BECAUSE the EchoVNC on the work PC DOES =
NOT try to reconnect automatically from this point on.

Any ideas about how to overcome this frustration?

thank you,

Gurhan

Gurhan:

Heya. Yes, EchoVNC has a problem recovering from a "locked
PC" right now. It should, of course, auto-reconnect to the echoServer
in the same way that it will when you stop and then restart the
echoServer. We're looking into why it's not...

Robert:

The "Could not connect to Server!" message is a VNC one.
Is it possible that the VNC Server on that machine is setup to not
allow loopback connections? I believe that's still an option in
UltraVNC that can be turned off and on.

Gurhan:

Heya. So...exactly what sort of screensaver are you running
on your work PC? I tested this weekend with the "default" screensaver
on WinXP-Pro (SP1), and the echoServer connection did not go down
when the screensaver activated.

thanks,
Scott
