Hi ECOFEMers! For those of you who don't know, the newest issue of UNEP's __Our Planet__ focuses upon "Women and Sustainable Development." The details are: Volume 7, Number 4, 1995. The back page includes a commentary/call for support for " A New Agency for Women" by Khadija Haq (Executive Director of the North South Roundtable). She argues that we need "an integrated United Nations agency to elevate women's advancement to the top of policy agendas, to monitor specific achievements and failures, and to provide a coordinated policy framework to galvanize energies and efforts throughout the international system." She calls this new organization the United Nations Agency for the Advancement of Women (UNAAW). The views are her own, but I strongly support them. "Women and Environment" is a critical part of such an integration, and it would be GREAT to see some more of this formalized, from the grass/flax roots to the global levels. I strongly encourage you all to read this issue of __Our Planet__! It could add quite a bit of dialogue to this list. Peaceful travels, Stefanie S.
