NEED the important word in that sentence. I recently purchased a book
entitled "Daybreak - 52 Things Nature Teaches Us" by Amy E. Dean in Barnes &
Noble. One of my best book purchases to date. I read it again and again.
Includes insights into the abuse of Power, the ease of Harmony, the
excitement of Change, the play inherent in Problem-Solving, the Mystery that
inspires wonder. One chapter entitled Simplicity - She goes into how in the
natural world animals only collect things they NEED - Whereas we humans are
constantly collecting things we WANT going well beyond those things that will
ensure survival. We should rather be satisfied with simple things in life,
health, companionship, stability, beauty, wisdom, and comfort. Valuing those
simple things. I agree. When I try to simplify my life, I only try to
purchase things I NEED. If everyone did this wouldn't that help reduce waste
and overconsumerism.
When we talk about everything that creates a profit as a waste of natural
resources I disagree. This is why I think there can be profit without waste.
It is what we are selling, how we are buying and where those products are
taken from, how they are taken, where they are manufactured that need
changing and most importantly WHY we are buying. We can sell coconuts at a
profit - this does not harm nature.
I agree with what you said about spending our time better with friends,
making music and helping others. I also agree with most what you said about
spirituality - but I do not agree that all consumerism is bad for nature.
The current economic structure is wrong - Profit at any cost is wrong. If
we could just VALUE nature more - imagine that! We could profit more as
