That "system of negotiation" is called democracy.  With all its
flaws, it still seems better than the alternative--governance by
fiat.  Whenever a self-appointed elite, whether ecofem or
conservative Christian or any other group convinced of its own purity
and righteousness, attempts to impose its viewpoint on the rest of
the polis, the result is fascism.  For that reason, I believe that
the questions regarding respect for diversity which Dorceta Taylor
raised in her post a couple of weeks ago are the most profound issues
which have been (inadequately) addressed on this list.
