I heard an interview on the radio recently with these guys as well as some
women working in India and the U.S. regarding this issue. It was on my
local community radio station WMNF at around 12 noon, so I assume it was
taped from Pacifica Radio. As a matter of fact, I seem to remember Amy
Goodman doing the interview. If you need more info regarding this
interview, I can get the phone number and show number from WMNF, so that
you can get a tape or transcript.
Two points about the interview struck me most: many women in the third
world have been given this drug without their knowledge -- the doctor
decides whether or not the woman should have any/more children; and
Mumford is still trying to get the drug approved in the U.S. However,
Mumford just about stated the the real population problem is in these
other countries, not really the U.S. It was a shocking piece to listen
to. Those who gave the opposing side of the argument however, responded
intelligently and eloquently from a first hand perspective. As always,
alternative radio is a great media source.
