                            POSITION  ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION:   Assistant Professor (Social Dimensions in Wildlife 
Management)

LOCATION:   Department of Fishery and Wildlife Biology, College of Natural
Resources, Colorado State University,
           Fort Collins

APPOINTMENT:   Nine-month tenure track

QUALIFICATIONS:  Required: 1)  Ph.D. required in a discipline related to
duties described below.  2)  Two years practical experience in
teaching/extension/research related to this position, either post-doctoral
and/or pre-doctoral. 3)  At least one degree in wildlife or
closely-related natural resources, such as fisheries, conservation
biology, or recreation.

Highly Desirable:  1)  Teaching experience with major responsibilities
related to this position.  2)  Publications in refereed, scientific
periodicals on human dimensions topics, and examples of public outreach in
this field.  3)  Strong background in social science theory and methods,
human dimensions, communications, policy, or related fields.  4) Skilled
in using modern methods, technologies, and media in teaching and outreach.
 5)  Eligible for certification by The Wildlife Society, the American
Fisheries Society, or other natural resources professions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  1)  Teach NR 400 Public Relations in 
Natural
Resources, a required course for Seniors in Wildlife Biology and other
majors.  2)  Develop another course in area of expertise or research
interest. 3)  Teach FW 375 Field Wildlife Studies (a 10-day field trip),
required for Wildlife Biology majors.  4)  Additional teaching assignments
may be made to meet departmental and University core curriculum needs, 
and
University guidelines for teaching loads.  5) Advise undergraduates;
advise student groups and supervise student activities. 6)  Establish a
sound program of research and scholarly activity, including support for
graduate students, within the broad area of public relations in natural
resources, e.g., public assessment, conflict resolution, natural resource
policy, advocacy, public participation, ethics in conservation,
teaching-learning methods, and effective communications.  7)  Participate
in professional, university, and community service.  There is opportunity
to participate in the activities of the Human Dimensions in Natural
Resources Unit at CSU and in the Cooperative Human Dimensions Initiative
with the Colorado Division of Wildlife.

SALARY AND FRINGE BENEFITS:   Commensurate with qualifications and
