Concordia University, Montreal, Canada, invites applications for a Tier I
Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Global Change Biology. The Department of
Biology has research and curriculum programs in ecology, evolution and
conservation, as well as in cell, molecular and genome biology.
Applications are invited from individuals with research programs that
complement our existing strengths in population ecology, community ecology,
macroecology, molecular ecology and microbial ecology. The successful
candidate is expected to have established a highly visible and
internationally recognized research program in any area of global change
biology, as demonstrated by an outstanding peer-reviewed publication,
funding record and ability to attract excellent graduate students and
postdoctoral fellows. S/he is expected to develop externally funded
large-scale strategic research projects and/or other programs appropriate
to the field. Research foci of interest include, but are not limited to,
anthropogenic influences on the maintenance and distribution of biological
diversity, as well as on ecosystem functions and services.

Tier 1 CRCs are for accomplished and high-profile innovative researchers
who are acknowledged by their peers as world leaders in their fields. The
successful candidate for the CRC position will, in the first instance, be
offered a tenured appointment at the rank of Associate or full Professor,
as appropriate. The CRC position offers an attractive salary, an annual
research stipend, a reduced teaching load, and the opportunity to apply for
start-up infrastructure through the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI)
Leaders Opportunity Fund (LOF). The candidate will be required to work with
the department and the Faculty to prepare the formal CRC nomination
according to the CRC program guidelines. The University will submit the
nomination to the CRC Secretariat at the earliest opportunity. Tier 1 CRCs
are awarded for seven years and may be renewed. (

vision statement (maximum 5 pages) that includes a specific research plan,
a statement of research leadership/achievements and a plan for fostering
research intensification across disciplinary strengths, a statement of
teaching and training philosophy (maximum 2 pages), and copies of recent or
