**  Systems Modeler/Software Engineer **

A systems modeler/software engineer is sought to lead and coordinate the
development and applications of a suite of computer software programs on
telecouplings (socioeconomic and environmental interactions over distances,
telecoupling.org). Telecoupling is an interdisciplinary umbrella concept and
may include human and animal migration, tourism, financial flows, trade of
goods and products, information dissemination, species invasion, disease
spread, water flow, energy flow, technology transfer, foreign investment,
pollutant transfer, and payment for ecosystem services. The integrated
software programs are expected to be spatially explicit, user-friendly, and
applicable on a variety of platforms (e.g., desktop, mobile, web-based).
They should be useful tools for quantifying the telecoupling framework and
addressing a variety of scientific and management issues related to
telecouplings throughout the world. 

Successful applicants will have degrees (at least a Masters degree) and
backgrounds in one or more relevant disciplines, such as computer science
and engineering, applied mathematics, computational ecology, landscape
ecology, spatial science, geographic information systems, bioinformatics,
spatial economics, environmental science and policy, and/or geography.
Knowledge of and experiences in computer simulation models and programming
languages (e.g., Java) as well as spatial software programs (e.g.,
geographic information systems) are essential. Other desired skills include
experiences with ArcGIS servers, high performance computing applications,
cloud computing, big data tools, scientific visualization, and project
management. 

This is a non-tenure track academic position based in the Center for Systems
and Sustainability (www.csis.msu.edu) within the Department of Fisheries and
Wildlife (www.fw.msu.edu) at Michigan State University (www.msu.edu). A
competitive salary and benefit package will be offered commensurate with
experience.
