Job Title: Biologist/Physical Scientist/Chemist Agency: Environmental Protection Agency Job Announcement Number: RTP-ORD-DE-2016-0010 OPEN PERIOD: Tuesday, January 5, 2016 to Monday, January 11, 2016 SERIES & GRADE: GS-0401/1301/1320-09 POSITION INFORMATION: Full-time - Permanent DUTIES: At the entry level of this position you will: - Assist in the execution and analysis of experiments as a member of one or more research teams within the larger framework of the Office of Research and Development research projects; - Assist in modifying, validating and applying methods to assess experimental endpoints; - Provide information and advice on laboratory procedures and operations; - Assist in implementing and adhering to Laboratory, health and safety, quality assurance and other system requirements. To qualify for the GS-09 level, you need to have at least one year of full time experience defined as assisting in research by collecting aquatic organisms, water, sediments or other environmental samples; and participating as part of a laboratory team; - OR master's or equivalent graduate degree; or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in the academic discipline as described above. Your answers to an on-line assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: 1) Knowledge of ecological research project planning and management; 2) Ability to work with an interdisciplinary team; 3) Skill in field and laboratory work; 4) Knowledge of ecology and ecosystems analysis; 5) Skill in written communication; 6) Skill in oral communication; 7) Knowledge of quality assurance procedures, standard operating procedures, laboratory quality systems, and laboratory health and safety systems.
