Purpose The 6th Annual Experience the Creative Economy conference is a forum for emerging scholars who are engaged in research related to the creative economy. The conference brings together up to 25 individuals from around the world to share and discuss their research. In particular, the small and focused setting provides participants with the opportunity to: Present their work Receive feedback Refine and develop research methods Join an ongoing network of collaboration and exchange The Program The four day conference will be a mix of the following: Presentations by all participants One on one feedback meetings with discussants Round table discussions Interactive panel discussions Opportunities to explore Toronto's creative scenes and neighbourhoods Who Should Attend? Participants In addition to our featured participants, Richard Florida and Kevin Stolarick, this conference is geared toward senior PhD students, Post-Doctoral Fellows and 'junior' faculty members who research one or more aspects of the creative economy. Timeframe The conference will start on the morning of Tuesday, June 18 and will end on the afternoon of Friday, June 21. Sessions are scheduled daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. On Tuesday and Wednesday sessions are followed by dinner and evening activities. On Thursday, June 20 sessions are followed by a farewell reception. On Friday, June 21 there will be a field trip and lunch in Toronto between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Costs There is no registration fee and the conference sponsors will provide the following for all participants: all meals during the conference, group transportation to events during the conference. All participants are also eligible for a conference bursary. For delegates who will be attending our conference for the first time, the conference sponsors will provide a fixed travel stipend based on department location (within North America or outside North America) that should be sufficient to cover most economy travel and accommodation expenses. For delegates who have attended the conference in the past, some expenses may be covered depending on availability of funds. How to Apply The conference organizers will select up to 20 individuals to attend. Your application to participate must include: A 250 word abstract of a working paper A list of 3 keywords describing your working paper A CV that includes an actual or estimated PhD completion date A 150 word biography A personal photo to be included in the conference program Email your application package by 12 p.m. EST on Friday April 19, 2013 to [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Notification and Responsibilities The conference organizers will email you regarding the status of your application in early May.
