Assuming that you have no special software or agreed conventions between
partners the worst feature is the absence of any delivery notifications.
When more mailers implement Message Disposition Notifications this
'problem' may disappear. As for security - if your current commercial
document transmission involves having your most junior employee drop
them into a box in the street - is it really that important? The only
other snag we have found is that the preferred method of sending, with
the EDI file as an attachment, may not be supported by the SMAPI
interface which the recipient's mailer provides.

Obviously if you are sharing a mailbox for EDI traffic and normal email
you may also have problems with a human user inadvertently stealing the
emails intended for the EDI system.

On the plus side it is one of the easier 'Network Interfaces' to
implement.
