I am looking for a PC(windows/linux/other?)-based translator that I can
interface with several back-end accounting systems for my client base. My
goal is to bundle this translation engine with my interface, and sell it to
my clients. The requirements are:

- low cost (this is critical. My clients cannot spend $10K+ for a simple EDI
translator, plus the costs of integration).
- typical mappings provided by vendor (my clients are mostly distributors
and manufacturers selling to large retailers. I would expect the EDI vendor
to provide (or bundle) the standard maps for the retailers (e.g. 850, 810,
856, etc.)
- ideally, a mapping tool that would allow me to control modifications to
the standard maps, and create new maps. One major problem I have now is
going back to the EDI vendor to have them create/modify maps, and wait 2-4
weeks for turnaround. I must be able to control this for my clients

other nice to haves:
- ability to communicate via multiple methods (VANs, FTP, etc.)
- unattended operations function
- XML-enabled

In a nutshell, I need a basic translation engine that can handle all typical
EDI procurement transactions.
