Make sure you get the latest ODBC drivers from the Oracle Technet website
(http://technet.oracle.com) for any PCs and install the drivers after you
have installed the Oracle8i client. We had problems until we installed it.
Having multiple 'Homes' on the PCs gave us some food for thought until we
realized that multiple homes were really only for the installation process
and that when running ODBC queries against different databases, it picks the
appropriate driver from the relevant home directory all on its own.
We use it to connect to Oracle 7.3.4 and Oracle 8.1.6 databases without any
problems.

We recently upgraded our database from Oracle 7.3.4 to 8.1.6 (on Solaris)
and had no problems. We did have some problems on the client side,
upgrading the Oracle client to 8.1.6, but that's another story.

We are a TLE UNIX shop running on Sun Solaris 2.6 and Oracle 7.3.4. We are
