I am not familiar with Sterling Commerce, so I cannot answer this
directly. For the benefit of those who are familiar with it, Chris
Hughes wishes to use tagged 'flat' file application interfaces. The tags
are 4 character, the fields in SDF (fixed length and column start - no
field delimiters), and the records normally are 80 character or less, so
there may be multiple records for each segment. The tag order and
hierarchy is the same as for the Tradacoms message. The fields have the
same size as the matching elements in the EDI message (sign and decimal
point discounted).

It is interesting that in the UK many applications generate or expect
the tagged flat file mapping supplied as default with Geis Intercept
Plus, so that this has for many become the standard, rather than the EDI
message itself!

Regards
Chris
