Dan,

I thought a previous message of mine in reply to Shikhar gave him some
guidance about how to "get started" in learning to ready X12 implementation
guides, to wit:

Consider attending an educational seminar. In order to read an
implementation guide you must first know how to read the underlying X12
standards. I pointed him to my web site where there is an agenda for just
such an educational seminar and also to DISA's site if he wished to register
for a two-day seminar to be conducted by me June 19-20. Attending this
seminar would be, as you say, learning how to walk first.

It would be a miracle if a novice could figure out the HIPAA Implementation
Guides without first having a modicum of knowledge about how to read and
understand the X12 standards.

Rachel,

Point taken. I have 6 different maps for the 832 depending on
whether it is inbound or outbound to our (Electrical Supply) Industry Data
Warehouse or IDW as it is known within IDEA members.

Shikhar is just beginning. He's got to learn how to walk before he
can run. From what all y'all have been posting, HIPPA is a marathon. I'm
sure once Shikhar gets the hang of things, he'll be back with more specific
questions that all y'all will kindly answer from your experience. Right now
he's asking how to start.
