Dear ddaviesnew:

The ex-QRS (now Inovis, right?) has/had an 832 process in place whereby the
retailer can submit via an 832 EDI file a 'request' containing the QRS ID of
the Vendor, the style number (better known as Vendor Product Number) and
optionally, NRF color code, amongst other things. With in 24 hrs, an 832
'response' file with the UPC code and additional information for the item (or
set if only requesting by VPN, for example) will be delivered to the requesting
retailer's mailbox.

If the 832 request/response method is not used, the lookup can involve the
retailer performing online lookup by VPN or more specific criteria and either
downloading to the user's PC right then, or they can be earmarked to be
delivered to the retailer's mailbox in a nightly batch.

If the request or lookup is not involved, the retailer could face getting (and
paying for) a lot of data on products they may never order.

In another response to your message, it was unknown if the retailer also pays
for the data they use from the catalog. Short answer is yes, the vendor pays
to put their data into the catalog and the retailer pays for the data they use
from the catalog. Another one of those service provider charges that's right
up there in popularity in this community along with the testing fees, I'll bet.

Subject: QRS Catalogue Process

I work for a retailer that is interested in obtaining UPC codes from
vendors so that they can send out PO's.

I am new to this side of the process and was interested to know how
others do it.

The buyer comes back with the vendors style, NRF color code, and a size
range. I could manually look these up in the on line inquiry but it
would be very time consuming.

Do others pull the whole catalogue and store it for future look ups? I
have lots of vendors so this would be a lot of data to store. Is there
a way to electronically look up UPC's.

I have a call in to QRS to find out about the process.

Thanks
