Hi All, GS1 Australia has developed a free testing service for EANCOM2002 messages (http://www.gs1au.org/services/cmt/_cmt.asp). We call it the GS1 Community Management Tool or CMT. This facility allows a user to load an EANCOM2002 message (currently only ORDERS and DESADV - will be developing additional documents in the future) and validate them against the standards. This is a free service to retailers and suppliers alike. In Australia, several retailers have engaged us to develop their own CMT for their specific requirements (unfortunately this is not free, but with the current exchange rate it would be very cheap in US$). Retailers pay for the service and this is provided free of charge to suppliers (This is a noble, and our only, pricing model...). The CMT allows a supplier to validate their messages against the trading partner requirements. It also allows suppliers to generate retailer test data using the suppliers own data (i.e. the supplier generates a profile containing their own GTINs, pricing structures, etc, etc, etc and the CMT uses this data to generate sample messages such as Purchase Orders as they were generated by the retailer). CMT also allows the validation of messages in context. We call this cross-document validation. For instance, if a supplier is validating a DESDAV based on a ORDERS message they have generated via the CMT, CMT will check compliance not only against the EDI (or XML, etc) but also against the ORDERS message (i.e. the PO Number in the DESADV will be validated against the PO number in the ORDERS message, delivery dates, GTINs, deliver to locations, etc). Retailers for whom we develop CMT also have the ability to create a workflow for supplier certification. This workflow will include a series of steps suppliers will follow to become fully certified. The steps could be related to EDI testing and validation (i.e. load and successfully validate a DESADV), or it could be business related steps (i.e. supplier has signed EDI Trading Terms and Conditions) or it could be supply chain specific (i.e. Supplier has sent sample SSCC label). Finally, CMT will provide the retailer with the capacity to monitor supplier progress through a wide range of reports. Suppliers will also have the complete history of their testing outcomes for reference. We have developed CMT for EANCOM (which I am sure all of you would know is a subset of EDIFACT) as well as for ANSI and XML standards. PS: I am using the "retailer" to mean "buyer"... Have a look at the EANCOM2002 CMT service (this would cost you nothing) and if you have any questions or suggestions for improvement, please drop me a line.

The third party contacts the supplier. If I, as supplier, tell them that I have an established EDI program with X number of partners exchanging Y documents and which version(s) and transactions I do, then I can test direct with the vendor with NO fees, using live data via the VAN/AS2 etc. If I can't meet the above criteria, then the testing and fees kick in. This gives the retailer a group of suppliers who are ready to test and the test firm handles the rest. Everyone's time is well used and fees are charged as needed. ________________________________ From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Ilia Chlaifer Sent: Monday, October 03, 2005 3:44 PM To: Michael Mattias; [email protected] Subject: RE: [BULK] Re: [EDI-L] Excellent EDI Article from Line 56 Michael: I can confirm that info. In many occasions testing with a third party (QRS & SPS) took us nowhere, so we've approached the Trading Partner (Sears, May Company & Burlington Coat Factory) directly to get an approval or have the issues resolved. To my humble understanding, most of the TPs use SPS or QRS services to ensure that we (vendors) can output EDI in the more-or-less industry-standard format. We (EDI-L) keep measuring up the rest of the world against ourselves, and keep forgetting that there are hundreds or even thousands vendors out there trying to do an EDI with those retailers having no clue what the EDI or X12 stands for. So what's wrong with the idea of having everyone check their 856 syntax before taking it to a 'next level'? I think we'd be surprised if we'd find out how many companies are still trying to parse in and 'spool out' raw EDI code using their applications, not using EDI translator at all and therefore not passing the date through any of the standard validations... Even take EDI-L for example. During my (uneventful mostly) career I've met 20-30 EDI guys in person. What do you know, only 2 of them belonged to EDI-L (hi Ed G, hi Michael F). So, I would not want to play a devil's advocate (I've always been on the vendor side), but we have to understand why those guys (Sears etc) need to do it. Common, think about it, they have 3-4 guys 'actually' handling EDI for 2000-3000 vendors, and dealing with some of the startup pains, having to explain them (new vendors) how to setup EDI and how it should "look like". Please. By the way, most of Bar-Code graphics feedbacks make sense. Their testing equipment is very close to what TPs use on their side and in the way they 'help' us to avoid future chargebacks by running tests against our 'actual' labels. Also, if you use them frequently, sign up with them and get an account. You'd find that the pricing would appear more 'flexible'. No flaming please. I heard from a 'very reliable source' that he once 'accidentally' sent some test invoices directly to a firm which had engaged SPS for testing/qualification and that since they passed (of course they did, because he couldn't hardly screw up an '810') that guy's client's was immediately approved for production, with a waiver of the requirement to go thru SPS. Damn, that 'very reliable source' was REALLY lucky, huh? But I doubt I could ^H^H^H^H^H^H^H he could get away with that too many more times.... Michael Mattias Tal Systems, Inc.
