I wouldn't expect anything dealing with JcPenney to make sense. Just
remember, JcPenney will hold you accountable for not making their senseless
crap make sense. :)

Subject: RE: [EDI-L] ASN Question

I am creating the ASN.

I have all the shipping data collected into tables and I can sort and
group it the way I want. The only thing I want to avoid is limiting
a box to a single P.O. if at all possible as we would end up with
a gazillion boxes.

If I understand you, I could do the Ship-Order-Pack-Item structure,
but I will be checking with Penney on this. I was wondering if
anyone had seen the multiple P.O.s per box before.

The other gotcha is Penney's MH-10 label. It appears that they are
expecting 1 P.O. per box as they have a zone on the label dedicated
to P.O. number. Perhaps I can cram a few P.O. numbers in there!

Thanks,
-Paul

|Paul,
|
|Sounds like maybe you are stringing the mouse turds lengthwise
|to make this more difficult. The structure is
|Shipment--->Order-->Pack-->Item is workable but it is EDI UGLY.
|
|The question is do you treat each box as a shipment? Or do you
|treat each box as an Order?
|
|You previously stated they were shipping multiple Orders in a
|single BOX. Therefore, I would say you ask them to build a new
|Order-->Pack Loop and record a MAN segment after the Pack so
|you know which box it is. Then when you get the data you will
|know the box which has all your orders in it. It would be a
|nightmare to receive but theoretically it works. Also check
|where you can put the MAN and other notes....Like I say the
|guys on the dock may put something other than coal in your
|stalking next winter, but that is kinda what I have seen in
|tote logic before.
|
|
|It would be:
|
|Shipment 1
|Order (PO 123)
|Pack(BOX 1)
|Man(Box 1 of 3)
|ITEM(1)
|ITEM(2)
|Pack(BOX 2)
|Man(Box 2 0f 3)
|Item(3)
|Order (PO 456)
|Pack(Box 1)
|Man(Box 1 of 2)
|ITEM(4)
|ITEM(5)
|Pack(BOX 3)
|Man (Box 3 of 3)
|ITEM(6)

|
| Can I have multiple purchase orders in the same box using
| the Shipment, Order, Pack, Item structure for an ASN?
|
| i.e.
|
| Ship A
| --------P.O. 123
| -----------------Box 1
| ------------------------Item 1
| ------------------------Item 2
| -----------------Box 2
| ------------------------Item 3
| -------P.O. 456
| -----------------Box 1
| ------------------------Item 4
| ------------------------Item 5
| -----------------Box 3
| ------------------------Item 6
|
| In other words, can I repeat the box number between
| 2 different purchase orders?
