Karrie As Travis pointed out, the check digit must be calculated on the 'whole' number. So you would have to recalc the check digit for the added 2 digit prefix. ie. Remove the check digit from the 12 digit UPC, add the 2 digit prefix (Packaging indicator + 0) gives you 13 digits. Calc the 14th digit as the checkdigit.
Remember, a UPC code is actually an 11 digit number, plus a check digit. The complication happens when you ship the same product to another supplier but using a different packaging. (Eg. 6 in a box instead of 4 in a box) In this case, you would change the 1st digit (Packaging indicator), keep the 11 digit UPC and recalc the last digit again. We won't discuss prepacks of different items ;-) I'm attaching an article on the GTIN indicator digit. It should help. > I have read the previous SCC-14 calculation but still not quite sure > if my thought is correct. We are selling to Walmart and we sell to > Walmart by 4 units in a box (carton).
