Mike, Leah,

Thanks for your input. I ran the same tests and received the same
results. The issue we will have is the + sign. The 2 applications
receiving the data won't handle it without changes in their processing.
We're trying to make this transition as transparent as we can to them.
We are going to try saving the data into a stored value and manipulating
it from there ( if it's > 1 do this , < 1 do this) and see what we can
come up with.

Mike,
You are correct, the numeric will allow an optional leading minus sign.
I did a couple of tests because I was curious. If the target app field
is defined as signed, you get a + when positive values - when negative
values, plus intermediate zeroes to fill the length of your field and no
decimal. If you go with defining the app field as alphanumeric you get
the negative sign and the two places to the right of the decimal (no
plus sign when positive). If you define the app field as numeric you get
no sign, no decimals and leading zeroes to fill your field. Results are
pretty much the same if the standard is changed to decimal number,
except you don't get the decimal when the app field is AN and you do get
all the numbers to the right of the decimal if the app field is signed
or not signed numeric.

Steve,
I'd suggest that you check how your TLE application field is defined, do
some testing and check your output file (before you feed it to your
actual application) and see what result you're getting. The issue may
lie in your application, not in TLE.

Good Luck,
Leah

The X12 numeric data type allows an optional leading minus sign for

negative numbers, so you should not have to change anything to receive a

negative number. I don't recall off the top of my head and don't have

Workbench in front of me, but I believe that you can define signed and

unsigned fields in the target application. I would make sure that your

target field is defined as signed. If it is and if your result isn't

coming through as negative when doing a straight mapping, then you've

probably encountered a bug.

is a numeric field with implied decimal at 2 places (N2). I'd say you
need to change this to a real number field "decimal number" in order to
be able to receive the negative sign. If you're not getting the decimal
in the data, you'll need to account for that in your mapping once you
switch from the implied decimal designator to the real number. I'm
slightly surprised you're not getting an error with the neg sign in the
data.
